Gold & Silver Pawn Shop
Pawn Stars began with Brent Montgomery and Colby Gaines of Leftfield Pictures, who were struck by the array of eclectic and somewhat seedy pawn shops in Las Vegas during a 2008 weekend visit to the city. Thinking such shops might contain unique characters, they searched for a family-run shop on which to center a TV series, until they found the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop less than two miles from the Las Vegas Strip. The series is filmed on location at the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although jewelry is the most commonly pawned item at the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, most of the customers featured in episodes bring in a variety of vintage or antique items to the store. Each episode consists of segments devoted to approximately five or six of these items in which one of the staff members, usually Rick Harrison, his son Corey, or Harrison's father Richard (known as the "Old Man"), explains the history behind the object. When the buyer is unable to evaluate an object, they consult with a knowledgeable expert who can evaluate it to determine its authenticity and potential value, and in the case of items needing repair, the cost of restoration or preparing the item for sale. |
M&M World
The first location opened on the Las Vegas Strip in 1997, in the Showcase Mall next to the MGM Grand. The four-story M&M's World includes a gift shop on the first floor. The shop leads to a 3D movie theater that shows the short subject I Lost My M In Vegas. Also on display are M&M's in nearly every color, and a replica of the No. 18 M&M's race car that is driven in the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series by Kyle Busch. M&M's clothing is sold on the second floor and on the stairs that go up to the second floor are pictures showing how the M&M's characters have evolved over the years painted on the wall. |

The Strip
The first casino to be built on Highway 91 was the Pair-o-Dice in 1931, but the first full service casino-resort on what is currently called 'The Strip' was the El Rancho Vegas, which opened with 63 bungalow hotel rooms on April 3, 1941. Organized crime figures such as Bugsy Siegel, took an intense interest in the growing Las Vegas gaming center, and funded another resort- mob financing for the finishing of the Flamingo construction. The Strip was named by Los Angeles police officer and businessman Guy McAfee, after his hometown's Sunset Strip in Hollywood. The opening of The Mirage in 1989 set a new level to the Las Vegas experience, as smaller hotels and casinos made way for the larger mega-resorts. In the 1990s, more than 12 new hotels opened, including themed hotels like the Luxor, Excalibur, and Mandalay Bay. With the opening of Bellagio, Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn, and Encore resorts, the strip trended towards the luxurious high end segment through most of the 2000s, while some older resorts added major expansions and renovations, including some de-theming of the earlier themed hotels. High end dining, specialty retail, spas and nightclubs increasingly became options for visitors in addition to gambling at most Strip resorts. |
Vegas Shooting Memorial
The memorial honors the 60 victims and thousands of survivors who were part of the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. The shooting unfolded across the street from Mandalay Bay on Oct. 1, 2017, the final night of the Route 91 Harvest music festival. Fifty-eight people died from gunfire that rained from upper-floor windows of the Mandalay Bay hotel into a crowd of 22,000 at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. More than 850 people were wounded or hurt fleeing the massacre. Authorities said victims were from Nevada, California, 13 other U.S. states and Canada. The gunman, Stephen Paddock, killed himself before police reached him in a suite strewn with 23 assault-style weapons and ammunition. He was a 64-year-old high stakes gambler, former auditor and real estate businessman who lived in southern Nevada and the Reno area. MGM Resorts International donated 2 acres of private land to Clark County in August 2021 for the memorial. |
Wahlburgers
In 2011, an equity group that includes Paul Wahlberg, Donnie Wahlberg, and Mark Wahlberg licensed the name "Wahlburger" from Tom Wahl’s for use in their own restaurant. The family also owns and operates another restaurant named Alma Nove, which opened prior to Wahlburgers. Its name is derived from the name of the brothers' mother and the fact that she had nine children ("nove" being Italian for nine). The first Wahlburgers opened in Hingham, Massachusetts, near Alma Nove, the pre-existing restaurant operated by Paul Wahlberg. Because of the success of the restaurant, a reality television series Wahlburgers was launched on January 22, 2014 on A&E. In 2014, Wahlburgers received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program. The show concluded in 2019 after 10 seasons. |
