I worked all day on my paper for Art History. It is not due until the Friday of finals week, but that just gives me plenty of time to write it. I got most of my rough draft done for it. When I wasn't writing, I was planning out the rest of my days in Rome:
Thursday: school Friday: Tivoli Saturday: Tarquinia Sunday: Viterbo Monday: Bagnoregio Tuesday: Art History final and St. Peter's Basilica Wednesday: See the Pope and explore Rome Thursday: 3 finals Friday: Shopping on Via del Conto Saturday: Travel home! I arranged to meet with my International Business group to discuss our project and the presentation that are due tomorrow. We first agreed to meet at 6 p.m. but one of the girls forgot that she has a class at the time. How can you forget when you have a class, especially in the last weeks of school? So we moved it to 5 p.m., but another girl had a class that didn't end until 5:45 p.m. We still decided to meet at 5 p.m. at the Tiber cafe. I was going to be early, but I decided to stop for a gelato on the way. I was 5 minutes late and I was still the first one to arrive. A couple of people in the group hadn't uploaded their part to the Google Docs. We agreed that everyone would have their part uploaded by the end of the night, so Maggie and I would have time to go over it. I also gave one of the other girls pointers on how to make her part better.

My family is coming tomorrow! I can't wait! But today I had to work on all the homework I am not going to be able to do while they are here. I finished my part of my group project. I also started researching graduate schools. I looked up the top graduate schools in Texas, Oklahoma, and the world. So now I just have to go through about 100 schools and start eliminating them. My dilemma is the price. To attend UT Austin for a year costs about $34,000, and I have to attend for 2 years, for a total of $68,000. If I get my degree abroad, it may cost $34,000 a year, but you finish their Masters program in 1 year, so I would actually save money. So many decisions to make.
I had my first Finance test today. I am almost positive that I failed it :(. She is a really hard teacher. The good news is that I can drop one of my test grades. I also know how she formats her tests now, so I know what to study in the future.
I found out in Art History that we get to have field trips to 3 different libraries during class time. Yippee! They are going to show us their manuscripts. I wonder if I can get a library card... I also found out that there is going to be a public transportation strike tomorrow, so there goes my trip to Tarquinia. I'm glad that I hadn't bought my ticket yet, because I have no way to get to the train station unless I take a cab. Marketing was boring, as usual. Microeconomics was also pretty boring. It was funny at one point because one student kept answering a question wrong, and the teacher kept telling him it was wrong, and then the teacher got frustrated and threw the dry-earase board market at him. Also, my life changed today. Previously I thought that I had all the classes I needed to sit for the CPA exam, but I was looking at them and I am at least 2 classes short. The ethics course that is required for my major doesn't count, and I need one more course of upper-level accounting. I thought about dropping my third major and taking those courses, but I decided to google is I needed a Masters first. Basically, people are divided. Some say to go ahead and get your Masters so you don't have to get it later, and it is recommended to have it if you want to be an upper-level manager one day. Others say that having a CPA speaks for itself and a Masters is not required. However, to get a CPA in Texas requires 150 hours (5 years of school) and most people get their Masters to fulfill this requirement. I have the 150 hours because I came in with a lot of credit, but everyone I would be competing against would have a Master's degree. So I have decided to go ahead and get my Master's degree. Now I have an additional 2 years of school left. :( I am so excited! I just booked my first flight to another country! On September 6 I fly to Oslo, Norway! I fly back to Rome on September 8. I have not researched Oslo at all, so I hope it will be fun! I hope I get to see the Northern Lights while I am there! Now I just have to research hostels, tours, and sights that I want to see.
I also decided on which class to choose for JCU. I am going to take Illuminated Manuscripts of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. It is a Tuesday/Thursday class. I sounds like a lot of fun. We get to learn how to make books. The only issue is that there is a field trip one Friday during the term, so I won't get to travel that day. I am hoping it falls October 10, since I will be staying in Rome anyways because Aunt Carolyn, Mom, and Kendall are coming. I just hope it doesn't fall October 3rd, because I was planning on traveling to Sweden that day. They have discount tickets that day for 56 euros! That is about $75 for a round trip flight to Sweden! I made a decision on the first country that I want to visit. I decided to focus on the northern countries because as we get closer to winter, they are going to get snowed in I will not be able to go there. So I am going to start at the top of the map and work my way down. So that means that Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia are my first choices. I am going to look at prices and choose the cheapest one.
I am only taking 12 hours at JCU, and the API program pays for up to 17 hours. I have been thinking of taking another class just for fun. None of these classes will transfer to TWU, but that is okay because then I don't have to worry about it affecting my GPA. Here is my narrowed down list:
- Illuminated Manuscripts of the Middle Ages - Web Design - Latin - International Management - Philosophy - Public International Law I can't decide what to take! All of the classes sound fun. I am leaning towards either Latin or Philosophy, because they sound fun. However, International Management and Public International Law would go with one of my majors even though it doesn't count for credit. Since I do not want to move, I have decided to research some more. Now that I have all day Monday and Wednesday free, I decided to look for day trips from Rome. I have found these:
- Ruins of Ostio Antica - Sabine Hills - Via Appia Antica Catacombs - Tivoli - Orvieto - Venice - Tarquinia - Assisi - Fracasti - Siena - Cerveteri - Reggia di Caserta - Subaico Another thing that I want to do one day is to follow the path of the Illuminati from Angels and Demons. I have decided to research cheap flight deals. I found out that Ryanair has cheap flight deals on their website. Here are some of the deals that I have found:
- Thassaloniki, Greece: 19.6 euros - Brussels, Belgium: 19.6 euros - Oslo, Norway: 22.99 euros - Bratislava, Slovakia: 22.99 euros - London, England: 22.99 euros - Gothenburg, Sweden: 22.99 euros - Budapest, Hungary: 23.99 - Kos, Turkey: 25.99 euros - Dublin, Ireland: 40.99 euros - Edinburgh, Scotland: 50.99 euros Of course, these deals are only on certain days, so I have to plan my trips accordingly. |
